Latest Updates from Our Project:

Steve's new Kickstarter: Minis from The Middle Age, and an AST update!
almost 2 years ago – Fri, Jun 24, 2022 at 10:54:32 AM

Hi! If you haven't heard, I have a new Kickstarter campaign which launched last week called Minis from The Middle Age.

This new campaign is to create D&D-size minis based on characters from my ongoing webcomic The Middle Age.

I sculpted each of the figures myself (using the Nomad Sculpt app on an iPad Pro) and I'm really happy with how they turned out.

You can learn all about the project here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/steveconley/minis-from-the-middle-age

And yes, I will be sculpting an Argosy Smith figure! :)

As for Astounding Space Thrills: Space Quakes...

I'm still remastering the episodes (and redrawing some lost high-resolution files). As soon as the remastering is complete, we'll be able to run the Kickstarter for that book.  I'll be sure to keep you posted as it comes together!

I hope you and yours are safe and well!

Thank you again for your ASTOUNDING support!

Alllllmost everything out the door...
over 2 years ago – Fri, Nov 26, 2021 at 08:19:15 PM

I was hoping to have everything out the door but I ran into a snag with one of the stretch goal rewards. I found that nearly a whole box of the Argosy logo pinback buttons were messed up (and all the remaining orders include at least one of them). I quickly re-ordered replacements and they arrived earlier this week (they look great and no bent pins!) and packing has resumed...

I just took a trunk full of packages to the post office today (photo below). I'm happy to report I have just a couple dozen more to go.

Again, if you haven't seen a tracking number yet - not to worry - you should receive yours in the next few days.

BIG Thanks to everyone who let me know - or posted on social media - that your orders arrived!  I love seeing the photos! :)

I spent a good part of Thanksgiving packing up more orders and I'm so very thankful for each of you for your kind support! <3

Look for another update next week! :)

In the final stretch! And The Pin Story!
over 2 years ago – Thu, Nov 04, 2021 at 03:41:57 AM

Approaching the finish line!

I'm expecting the last shipments should be going out this week! If you haven't received a tracking number yet, look for one in the coming days! If you're receiving a larger international shipment, keep an eye out for an email from me confirming your address one last time.

The Pin Story!

As I briefly mentioned in one of the video updates, there was a lot of drama related to the production of the Argosy Smith logo lapel pins. In the past, I've made quite a few enamel pins (some are available on my web shop) and I've used the same company for all of them. The company, All About Pins, does wonderful work, the work is FAST, and their team is very responsive.

A bit of context: There are a few different kinds of lapel pins - two of the most common being soft-enamel and hard-enamel (or cloisonné). I prefer cloisonné pins because they have a smooth, flat surface and they feel classier - they're also a little more expensive presumably because of the accent over the é. :) Soft-enamel pins aren't smooth and the colors don't fill the cells of the pin entirely. To me, they feel cheap.

I always order the schmancy pins because my backers deserve the good stuff!

The order arrived and...

...I got the soft-enamel style pin.

The pin company apologized, explained that they should have caught the fact that I wanted both black metal and hard-enamel and that those two options are incompatible. I understood, no problem, and asked for standard metal instead. I mean, I promised coissoné pins and want to deliver what I promised. I received a new digital proof, the new pins were put in production, were done, and... then they sat on a dock in China for more than a week related to supply-chain issues.

They arrived around ten days later and were hard-enamel...

...but they were GREEN.  The color is almost exactly that glow-in-the-dark green/yellow. I even looked at them in the dark but no luck, they didn't glow.

I broke the bad news to the pin company and they, once more, apologized and said they'd make it right. The next step was that the manfacturer in China would make a single pin and send me a photo. It took a few weeks but I got the photo and it looked great. I approved production again and waited.  The box arrived Monday and....

...they're PERFECT! I couldn't be happier!

So, what should have taken a week took about three months but the final result is fantastic. I hope that's exactly how you'll feel about this campaign. :)

I'm not sure if anyone is interested in this sort of look at the process but I thought I'd share and help explain the delay.

I haven't yet figured out what I'm going to so with the other pins.

Thank you again for your amazing support and patience.
